I just got this and it works great. I wanted a way to backup raw HD videos from my Canon HV20 and store them in the fire safe. Buying this and an internal hard drive was much cheaper than an external hard drive. I got this and a 750 GB internal drive for less than $90. And now I have the ability to expand my storage space in the future by simply buying another drive and plugging it in.
The drive takes desktop and laptop hard drives. It comes with both USB and eSATA cables (which some don't). I've only used USB so far. It took a little over an hour to transfer 100 GB of data. I'm sure the eSATA will be faster but this works for now. It was super easy. Per the directions, I just plugged up the cables, inserted the drive and hit power. The drive was visible in Windows Explorer and ready to go (the drive I bought was already formatted). That's it and it worked great.

I have one HDD try to transfer data to my new computer, I shop Amazon find this item and buy it, I was afraid may hard to use it, actually it is so easy ,I just plug in then my computer found the drive right away, not even need to download software, then copy and paste to my new computer , that's it , I will suggest all of my friends if you want to copy data, this unit is the best choice. No more headache...

The eSATA connection did not work. Neither on the original nor on the replacement. I use it as a USB hard drive docking station.
